Location: Kerala, South India
Date: 5th – 14th March 2021
Duration: 9 Days
We’re offering you the chance to have a once in a lifetime experience making a very positive difference within a children’s cancer hospice in India and to the lives of the young people we support here in the UK.
The challenge will take place March 2021 and you will trek through some of the most amazing scenery Kerala has to offer. You will then be asked to complete a special project within a children’s hospice to improve the surroundings where many will spend their final days.
If you feel it’s time for you to make your own special memories, we guarantee this challenge will give you an experience you will never forget.
The money you raise will enable Dragonfly Cancer Trust to continue its work supporting children and young people in the UK with limited time, providing them with unique opportunities to create lasting memories with their loved ones.
This trip starts with a trek in the beautiful Kannan Devan hills area of Kerala which will take you along a route through the highest tea estate in the world; Kolukkumalai. You will cross the foothills of the second highest peak in South India and trek through the rolling grassland and natural brooks of the Western Ghats.
Four days trekking with distances between 10km and 17km each day (approximately 6 and 10 miles).
You will spend two days assisting at a hospice care project in Trivandrum which provides assistance to children with cancer and their families, to enable high standards of treatment, care and support, and to ensure that no child suffers for want of treatment through lack of finance. Possible tasks include redecorating and painting, creating a garden and relaxation areas, or generally working to improve the environment for those who are supported by these facilities.

Kerala is South India’s most serenely beautiful state and a world away from the frenzy of the rest of India. Your challenge will take place in the spice and tea covered hill stations of the Western Ghats, home to exotic birds, elephants and 67 species of dragonfly!
Your trek begins in Munnar, South India’s largest tea-growing region where the rolling hills are carpeted in emerald-green tea plantations. The low Western Ghats scenery is magnificent – you’re often up above the clouds watching veils of mist clinging to mountaintops.
Your project will take place in Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala on the South coast. It’s a relatively small but energetic city spread across low-lying hills and an easygoing introduction to the fascinating melting pot of Indian culture.
